Keurig? No Thanks!!!
On this year's Black Friday in Madison, Wisconsin I came across some (not so) good deals on Keurig Coffee Makers. I looked at them and was baffled that anyone would want only ONE cup of coffee? I have a small 4 cup coffee maker (ya know, the old fashioned ones where you actually pour in the coffee grounds) and often times I have to make another pot because one is not enough! Also, I tend to like my coffee very strong and to personalize my flavor by adding cinnamon, pumpkin spice, vanilla, or other flavored coffee that I even grind myself, *gasp.* $150-$200 for a coffee maker just seems a little outrageous to me. Also, in order for those little "k-cups" to be affordable you have to buy them in bulk. What if I get busy trying to teach myself CSS and forget to order another bundle of 80 k cups on amazon and have to go without my coffee? The whole idea of these one cup coffee makers is annoying, BUT I must say whoever was involved with the marketing did an alright job. They are getting people to pay MORE for a coffee maker that makes LESS! Genius. Ok, well I'm going to go back to my handmade cup of coffee from my Mr. Coffee maker (circa 2006). Have a caffeinated day!

This Whole Follow Your Dreams Thing is Tough
Recently I spoke with my professor that led my trip to Rome this past summer. I told him my hopes of finding a short-term internship in Rome and he said, "Follow your dreams, Sarah." So, I've been doing all I can to follow that dream--aside from flying over there without a home or job! I found out that I will need a green card, will probably be paying around $1,000 a month on rent between MPLS and Rome (and that's on the cheap end), and the likelihood of me getting a well-paid job there is nearly zero. I really would love to make this work, I just don't see it happening for at least another year. If you'd like to read about my time in Rome click here.
I will be searching daily to find an internship or job, and while I wait I will try to make my portfolio better better better!

On Getting Mail
I have always been one to love snail mail. I still send my Mom and grandma's letters and cards every so often just because I know how much they love it, and I hope that in return I will get a card as well! The problem I face now with receiving snail mail or packages is that I have no patience whatsoever. Now that Facebook, Twitter, email, instant messaging, Facetime, and text messaging exist we expect instant gratification.
I ordered a bag on etsy.com from a woman in Thailand. I asked her to make some customizations to is and she happily agreed. It took two weeks to make and ship and I just about had an aneurysm waiting for it. I was so excited to receive it I could not think of much else. Deep disappoint filled me every afternoon I checked the mailbox and nothing but election crap and grocery store ads had been delivered. I even knew that it could take as long as three weeks to get to me, but still, I was anxious.
Maybe we all need to send a little more snail mail and learn a bit of patience through it?

I didn't completely fail myself.
Well, for my first post I figured I might as well point out some areas of improvement I have. Today I tried to set up my own custom URL on my cargo collective website. I had to pay Cargo $66 for an upgraded membership, then $25 to GoDaddy to register my domain name (www.saraheven.com). It takes two days to process so I won't know if I've failed until 48 hours from now!
I figured since Cargo is for people that are not technology inclined that this process would be simple. WRONG. So it has step by step instructions but the terms they are using are foreign to me. DNS, A Records, CNAME, etc. So I google them, learn what they stand for, but am still not able to understand where I go to "change" all of these terms.
Eventually I think I figured it out. We will see, I suppose. Right now I feel slightly proud that I found my own way around the issues I faced, but I am not completely confident that I succeeded....yet. Oh, I also did this all while maintain concentration on the movie, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. :)
Tarin will be back from work soon and maybe she can point me in the right direction as far as this website stuff goes. I spent around $90 today on it, so I better at least figure it out before it expires in two years! Wish me luck.
