This Whole Follow Your Dreams Thing is Tough

Recently I spoke with my professor that led my trip to Rome this past summer. I told him my hopes of finding a short-term internship in Rome and he said, "Follow your dreams, Sarah." So, I've been doing all I can to follow that dream--aside from flying over there without a home or job! I found out that I will need a green card, will probably be paying around $1,000 a month on rent between MPLS and Rome (and that's on the cheap end), and the likelihood of me getting a well-paid job there is nearly zero. I really would love to make this work, I just don't see it happening for at least another year. If you'd like to read about my time in Rome click here.

I will be searching daily to find an internship or job, and while I wait I will try to make my portfolio better better better!

On Getting Mail

I have always been one to love snail mail. I still send my Mom and grandma's letters and cards every so often just because I know how much they love it, and I hope that in return I will get a card as well! The problem I face now with receiving snail mail or packages is that I have no patience whatsoever. Now that Facebook, Twitter, email, instant messaging, Facetime, and text messaging exist we expect instant gratification.

I ordered a bag on etsy.com from a woman in Thailand. I asked her to make some customizations to is and she happily agreed. It took two weeks to make and ship and I just about had an aneurysm waiting for it. I was so excited to receive it I could not think of much else. Deep disappoint filled me every afternoon I checked the mailbox and nothing but election crap and grocery store ads had been delivered. I even knew that it could take as long as three weeks to get to me, but still, I was anxious.

Maybe we all need to send a little more snail mail and learn a bit of patience through it?
